Welcome to Jason and Yazmin Wickham's Team In Training Update Site!

What is this website all about?

Below is the basic letter we've been handing out to friends, neighbors, or anyone else who will listen to our rantings. If you would like more information on The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training program or the Athens to Atlanta Road Skate, you can use the links below to get to their respective websites...

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step...

...Or, in our case, a stride on an inline skate...

This May, we, Jason and Yazmin Wickham, joined The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America’s TEAM IN TRAINING program (www.teamintraining.org) to skate in the Athens-To-Atlanta Road Skate (www.a2a.net). Our 52 mile journey will be completed on October 24th and we are committed to training and preparing for this challenge everyday until then. And no, we have not lost our minds!

For more than 45 years, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has been the leading organization in the fight against leukemia and other blood related diseases. They conduct research and provide direct aid to victims and their families. A cure for leukemia means great strides in curing all cancers because leukemia research is considered the window to the treatment and cure for all types.

Facts:

We are skating in honor of our aunt, Sarah Quinones, who has spent her life battling bone cancer. About two weeks ago, Sarah had a relapse that landed her in the hospital for over a week. With the help of new drugs researched and developed within the last decade due to fundraising efforts such as this, Sarah’s doctors were able to control this latest relapse. Just think, the determination we will need to skate the 52 miles is nothing compared to the inner strength cancer patients need to fight their battle on an everyday basis. They have no coaches, no days off and often no finish line in sight.

As part of Team In Training, we have committed to raise $4000 ($2000 each) of which over 75% will go directly into research and aid for victims of leukemia. We are asking for your help and support to meet this goal before July 1st. Please consider donating $25 towards our goal. If that is too much or you think you can give more, please still give! No amount is too small or too large! You can make your check out to “The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society” and each donation is tax deductible. Contributions by credit card are also accepted; just contact us for more information. If you are in the Atlanta area, we hope you will join us at our fundraiser in July. Otherwise, please join us in this fight by sending your contribution in the enclosed stamped envelope.

We look forward to updating all of you on our skate training progress. So make sure to stop by here for the latest update. This is a very exciting time for us and it is rewarding to be able to begin our journey in conjunction with such a great charity like The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!

Thank you, thank you, thank you all for your support!

Sincerely,

Jason and Yazmin Wickham
